Ugh, I need this video to be playing in the background 24/7.
With fall quickly approaching us, people are starting to break out their tights and leggings once more. And like every other blogger out there, I'm incredibly excited for fall. Hello layers! After emailing a very sweet girl back and forth about tights, she inspired me to write a fun little post about the things. I scanned through my archives and found some examples of different ways to wear tights in the hopes that it will also inspire you this fall and winter season!
(here & here)
These tights I purchased from Walmart, I believe, and they are a very versatile pair. With tights like these, I sometimes even wear another pair of tights underneath them (on especially cold days), and the color peeks through the slits. This makes a really fun effect and adds even more interest to the outfit.

Now for some fun colored tights! The green lace tights are from forever 21, and the orange ones were borrowed from my friend. In regards to the green ones, I don't wear them very often because I accidentally bought a couple sizes up from what I needed, and they like to, ahem, fall down a lot, so if I wear them I have to constantly adjust them. In this example, I wore them with a purple dress to contrast the green color. You can read more about mixing colors together here! For the orange-y ones, I decided to go a little bit more natural and pair them with yellows and browns and blacks.

These vertical striped tights I received from romwe when they were having their whole "receive one free pair of tights by signing up" sort of thing, and they are definitely one of my favorites. They're basic black, but with a fun twist. These two looks are a bit "edgier" for me, so it might be fun this autumn to try to style them in a more girly sort of way.

Aaah, my trusty maroon tights. I wear these things once a week, I swear. They're so comfortable and warm, and I've worn them so much the heels are all worn through. And yet I still hold on to them because I am convinced I can wear them with anything (in fact, they're going to be featured yet again in an outfit post for tomorrow!). If you're on the hunt for tights, get these ones. I purchased mine at forever 21 years ago, but I'm sure there are other pairs like them out there.
(here & here)
White tights are also good to have on hand. I borrowed the ones on the left from my mom, and the ones on the right are from forever 21. They are really easy to dress up or down. You can either pair them with a little black dress and red heels, or with a denim dress and boots like I did in the left photo.

These star tights I diy-ed using my friend Annika's tutorial, and even though they are pretty torn up now, they're still one of my favorite pairs. Any patterned tights instantly adds more interest to an outfit, and in the case of the red color here, they can add even more color variation.

These heart tights from forever 21 are another example of patterned tight goodness. It gives an outfit just a touch of magic (though I have to say that people sometimes think I have the chicken pox with these tights on, haha).

Finally there are my thrifted green tights (I also have another pair in blue). Even though green isn't really a neutral color, these dark green tights have worked really well with a lot of outfits I and my friends have worn.
So if you're looking to buy tights for fall, I would say start with the neutrals: first a black pair, then white, then navy, brown, and potentially green. If you're looking to add more, go for some different colors, or even go for some patterned tights, like stripes or polka dots. You may have also noticed that I wore shorts in several of these shots, and it just goes to show that tights aren't just for dresses! With the right combination, you can make tights work with shorts as well, which is perfect for transitioning seasons that are a little too cold for shorts, but not cold enough for pants or thick tights.
What's your favorite pair of tights that you own?
1. Bought beautiful sunflowers for our kitchen table.
2. Took photos during the gorgeous golden hour on a busy street.
3. Went to a drive in and saw Pacific Rim (fantastic movie!).
4. Got to hang out with a crazy guy.
5. Found little leaf skeletons (a sure sign of fall!).
6. Awesome art installations by artist Ryan Beard. Be sure to check him out!
How was your week? What was the most memorable thing you did?

Happy Saturday everyone! This outfit was from a couple days ago. The same day I wore this, I was attacked by a vicious beast, thankfully after these photos were taken (otherwise you probably would have never seen this outfit since I was in great pain for the duration of the day). Yep. I got stung by a bee. First time ever too, and let me just say that I don't wish that kind of pain upon even my worst enemies. My friends thought it was because I looked like a walking flower that I got stung, and I'll have to admit, with green shoes and bright pink leggings, I do look pretty flower-like, but then my friend Amy got stung in the exact same spot on her body (right on the back of our heels, SO painful) in the exact same location the next day. We think there's a hive or something under the stairs (where we both got stung), so I've been avoiding it like the plague and running away from any sort of flying object and freaking out when anything touches my feet or ankles, because I do not want to experience that kind of pain again.
But, I did feel pretty awesome looking down and seeing the bee stuck to me, and just yanking him out and throwing him on the ground. Of course, running away and freaking out wasn't all that brave, but I won't tell that part of the story to people. ;)
I hope you have a great weekend!
Though I'm sure some of you have seen this video (since it currently has over 28 million views), it's always good to bring to the table again. I love this video not only because the kid is super cute and it's an excellent film, but because of the message behind it. We're all on the same team, so we should strive to make the world a better place. Every person is struggling and hurting, and you never know someone's full story. But it's worth it to get to know your teammates and build them up and support each other.
If everyone would focus on being kind and loving towards one another, just think of how much easier life would be. Sure, bad things still occur, but it's comforting to know that wherever you turn, people are there to lend a hand. I'm slowly coming to realize that life isn't all about me--in fact, very little of life is about me. Do you ever get that weird feeling that, even though you can't actually see it, other people are seeing things from their own perspective (like literally, I'm looking out of my eyes, and sometimes I try to imagine other people looking out of their own eyes)? Every human being on the planet has that first person point of view and is constantly filled with their own thoughts, and it's just sort of an existential crisis for me because other people can see from a similar perspective as me, and yet no one will ever see from the exact same perspective. And no one will ever know my thoughts or my life, and I won't ever know anyone else's. But we are all human beings and we share that commonality, and by joining together and getting pieces of each other I can help someone get their story out and maybe take away part of the burden of life, and they can do the same for me.
It's a whole giving and receiving type of thing. The more you give, the more you will receive, and the fuller your life will become. It will be full of the joy that comes from helping and being kind to people. Life is not about me in the least, but it's about how I can help others and build people up and be kind to everyone, even those who may be hurtful towards me. They're the ones that need the most love. I'm trying to become more loving towards the ones that need it the most.
So I hope you have a very wonderful weekend, and don't forget to dance and help someone join in on the dance party.
You all are the best. :)

Remember on instagram about a month ago when I was oogling over the most gorgeous rainboots ever? Well surprise surprise, Matt bought them for me as a two and a half year anniversary present! So of course at even the slightest hint of rain, the boots came out and they fit perfectly on my feet. (Some random guy even came up to me and said, "I love your boots! They are so adorable!" I don't think I've ever heard a guy say "adorable" without being sarcastic, so I found it really funny.) I have never found a pair of rainboots that I actually like. Some people can pull off the whole fishing-boot style thing that comprises 99% of the rainboot shape, but I cannot, and figured I would never find a pair. But low and behold, an ankle boot, pointed toe pair of boots with a bow, no less, is in existence! I'm so in love with these boots I can't even handle it.
Of course, right as these photos were taken, it started pouring down rain and thundering and lightning. I wasn't annoyed though, because I haven't heard thunder in real life in years and it's probably one of the most beautiful sounds, especially when you're falling asleep. With the rain pouring down and thunder rolling in the distance, you're just cuddled up in a nice warm blanket. Unfortunately, the heat is back now, and tomorrow it's supposed to be 98 degrees (uuuuugh kill me now), so I'm constantly doing homework in front of the fan with the minimal amount of clothing while the fan is on at full blast. Needless to say, I am more than ready for fall.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
