30 Day Challenge Recap

day 3 // day 5 // day 7 // day 9 // day 12 // day 14 // day 17 // day 18 // day 19 // day 22 // day 26 // day 29

Here's a recap of some of my favorite outfits from this month. I really loved how this challenge pushed me to wear the dress in new, crazy ways. (Looking back, I totally should have tried to turn it into a pair of pants!) One of my favorite epiphanies was transforming it into a scarf. You can turn nearly any sleeveless dress into a scarf just by pulling the bottom of the dress through the sleeves. I'm already thinking up ways to wear my other dresses as scarves.

In other news, Anchorage was voted America's worst dressed city. For the most part, that's probably true, though I do have a little more faith in Alaskans than whoever answered this poll. It just made me laugh. In Alaska, you can have all sorts of styles in one place. When I went out to eat for my graduation dinner (day 19), my family went in jeans and sweatshirts. We saw everything from hiking clothes (aka backpack, muddy boots, haven't shaved in days type look), to fancy LBDs and red lipstick. We even saw one girl with a black and white dress with neon orange heels and neon pink and yellow earrings. So I don't think we're the worst dressed, we're just like the New York City of the west, we've got every style here!

But back to my main point. Haha sorry for that digression. This challenge has seriously been so much fun and I'm almost sad that it's over. :) I will be happy to do outfit posts on other outfits though. (I have an awesome velvet dress that's on the waiting list ... I just have to sew it so I can wear it.)

I just want to thank you all so so much again for being so supportive of this. You can continue to donate to the Batonga Foundation through the donate button on the left-hand side bar at any time. And if you just can't get enough of the 30 day challenge concept, another blogger has been inspired to do the challenge for the month of June! You can check her out here!

Batonga 30 Day Dress Challenge: Day Thirty

the dress: as shirt // skirt/cardigan: thrifted

Wow, that will be the last time I ever type that title. This has been a crazy month raising money for the Batonga Foundation and wearing this dress every day. I have learned so much about finding new ways to wear clothes that now, I could pretty much wear anything in any way.

Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for donating, putting the buttons on your blogs, and raising awareness for the Batonga Foundation and the girls of Africa. You can still donate today and give education and a better life to a girl, and I will continue to support the Batonga Foundation through this blog so that you can donate at any time.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a recap of the month. I also have some super awesome things planned for June so you won't want to miss out!

Thank you again so so much.

Thank you and have an awesome day!

Batonga 30 Day Dress Challenge: Day Twenty Nine

the dress: as shirt // skirt: forever 21 // tights/floral headband: diy

Wow, can you believe this challenge is almost over? Thank you so much to those of you who have already donated and for those of you who haven't, I would greatly encourage you to donate to the Batonga Foundation. They are a really great organization that provides girls in Africa with a full education. This is super important because when they're in school, not only are they learning to be able to provide for their future families, they are less likely to get sexually transmitted diseases and less likely to get married prematurely. They will continue on to pursue a higher education to become businesswomen and make a living for themselves.

Even if you just donate $5 it can change the world of a girl. If everyone who reads this blog just donates $5 each, we'll be able to give well over $500 to the Batonga Foundation.

Thank you so so much. You can read more about the Batonga Foundation here. Every little bit helps.

Batonga 30 Day Dress Challenge: Day Twenty Eight

the dress: as skirt // green dress: maurices // scarf: from boyfriend

This green dress has been in my closet since junior high. It's one of my favorite dresses ever but putting it on today I realized that I'm finally outgrowing it. :( Hopefully it will find a good home with my sister. And I wish I had discovered this fancy trick with dresses earlier in this 30 day challenge: folding the top to turn it into a skirt! Before when I wore it as a 'skirt,' I was just wearing a shirt over the dress, but with some not-so-fancy folding you can easily turn it into an actual skirt to wear over other dresses. Sweet!

This is probably my new favorite nail design. Tape is a glorious invention, especially when it comes to nails. And for an extra surprise, my top clear coat turns pink in the sun! (So the middle parts of my nails go from clear to pink. Awww yeeeah.) Good thing today the sun is actually out and I'm going out as well.

As always, I'm wearing this dress for an entire month to raise money for the Batonga Foundation, which supports girls in Africa by giving them a full education. You can read more about it here! Every little bit helps.

Batonga 30 Day Dress Challenge: Day Twenty Seven

the dress: as shirt // shoes: famous footwear // lace shirt: thrifted // flower headband: diy

Aaaah the shoes are back! I was trying to achieve a look that was feminine but kind of BA at the same time ... not sure if it worked out or not, haha.

I bought that lace shirt thinking I could fix it up (the sleeves are crazy puffy and I was hoping to make them not so), but that was months ago. If I ever start up a shop (eh, a girl can dream, right?) this may be one of the shirts that will go up. It also may seem like I've run out of ideas for this dress (I mean come on, a shirt and jeans?), but let me tell you, I still have so many ways to style this dress in my head, it's crazy (shall we turn this into a 60 day challenge? ....... eeeeeh maybe not, haha). I've started writing down outfit combinations and it's a really great way to plan out outfits. I think when college starts that will be a lifesaver when I'm being lazy in bed instead of waking up for classes. I usually have no brain power in the morning to concentrate on being creative with clothes anyways.

Batonga 30 Day Dress Challenge: Day Twenty Six

the dress: as shirt // shorts: target // tights/jacket: forever 21 // lace cardigan: thrifted

I seem to not have any definite clothing style. One day it's crazy pants and heels, the next it's comfy boots and two pairs of socks on top of tights (yeah, it was a little chilly today). While I know it's good to have a particular style, one shouldn't force oneself into a certain type of clothing. This is why I love personal style: it can constantly be changed and no can really say anything about it because if you're always wearing what you want, nothing else matters. And today I want to wear comfy matchy matchy clothes and curl up with a book and not really worry too much about what I look like, and that is just fine.

Also, I was taking film photos and was trying to rewind my film because I finished the roll, and the film broke inside the camera. (ie. it came apart from the cartridge.) Does anyone know if I can still save the film, and if so, how would I remove it and protect it from sunlight? Thank you in advance. (I'm pretty bummed that it broke because that roll was filled with graduation pictures. :( )

I encourage (beg!) you to donate to the Batonga Foundation, which supports girls in Africa by giving them a full education. You can read more about it here! Every little bit helps and there are just a few days left! It doesn't matter if it's $5 or $500, the important thing is that you give to help a girl in need. (hahaha tugging at your heartstrings! But seriously, this is the whole reason why I'm wearing this dress for 30 days. :D )
Thank you and have an awesome day!

Batonga 30 Day Dress Challenge: Day Twenty Five

the dress: as shirt // pants: forever 21 // shoes: famous footwear

As I was sitting down to eat lunch and catch up on my favorite blogs, my brother came in and set a picked dandelion on my computer. After asking him why he did such a thing, he replied, "Because you're artistic ... and stuff." Then he turned and walked out of the room. Despite the odd encounter, dandelions can mean one thing: summer! And as a matter of fact, when I trekked through the yard to go take photos, dandelions were beginning to peek through the fresh grass.

I don't know what it is about Alaska. Maybe it's the pine trees or the ocean air or the fresh moose poop (okay that one is a joke), but this place smells so good! The moment they invent scratch-and-sniff over the internet, I'll send you guys a sample of what it smells like. If you've ever read Sound and Fury, this place smells like trees, untainted by humans. It's like holy ground teeming with insects and creatures. I just love it so much.

Batonga 30 Day Dress Challenge: Day Twenty Four

the dress: as dress // shirt: mother's closet // cardigan: target // shoes: forever 21 // ear cuff: icing

Sunny yesterday, rainy today. Sadly the rain is more well known in the summer than mister sun. Hence not very many photos today. Though the usual rain is just showers, risking my camera's life was not on my list of things to do. It was cold, so I wore the dress long and layered it with my trusty heavy cardigan. Now I'm so warm and cozy even when getting rained on.
