last time I saw you, you were on stage

shirt/shoes: forever 21 // dress: urban outfitters // tights: diy

What a lovely day it's been! The sun is shining, the little insect creatures are coming out and the snow is finally receding (except for at school where there are dangerous ice parking lots still ... good grief I almost die every morning). I've been cleaning my room today, with the curtains pulled back and the window open (much to Oscar's, my cat, happiness), and only now that I'm sitting down I'm a little chilled. Maybe this weekend I'll even pull out my summer shorts!

Silly test shot.

The dress is one I got as a Christmas present, and my most expensive dress, save for formal dresses. A long time ago on a What Not To Wear episode, the host Stacy said that the number of times you wear an article of clothing reduces the cost per wear. As in, if a dress is one hundred dollars and you wear it twice a year, it really only cost you fifty dollars. So if you wear it one hundred times a year, it's only one dollar! It's a somewhat silly thing, but when buying quality pieces it kind of makes sense. I would rather buy a nicer, more expensive piece that will last a long time than a cheap piece that keeps having to be replaced every few wears.

So that's where thrifting comes in, because some of those clothes have lasted centuries! Not exaggerating ... okay maybe a little. Not sure what Stacy would say to thrifting, but hey, there are some awesome things at the thrift store! I haven't been in a while, so all this talk is really making me want to go ...

Well I'm off to babysit on this beautiful Friday evening. Hope you all have a great night!

in the past the hearts sang out loud

day 110

I've been feeling down about my photography, as well as other things, so my boyfriend gave me a challenge . He did a 365 in 2011 and told me to re-create one of his photos. Well naturally I think a ton of his photos are awesome, so I'm doing a little series where I try to re-create some elements of his photos.

For this photo I loved how Matt used cool tones as he took the photo during the winter, so I wanted to mimic that but with warm tones for summer (even though there's still snow on the ground!). I also really loved the glass and how it refracts the light. The pose is the same as well. I am really happy about how this turned out, since this was a new kind of expansion I was doing, like an inception expansion because I only expanded the piece of glass. It wasn't too difficult and I'm happy about this photo. :)

Here's Matt's photo. He looks so young!

And here are some others from today. These were taken at 9:30 pm. Man oh man I love Alaska.

we shall dance in the light

day 109

I've been feeling down about my photography, as well as other things, so my boyfriend gave me a challenge . He did a 365 in 2011 and told me to re-create one of his photos. Well naturally I think a ton of his photos are awesome, so I'm starting a little series where I try to re-create some elements of his photos.

For this one I loved the color scheme as well as the box of the background coming though, so I played with my own cool toned scheme and the boxes. I really love how this photo turned out and hopefully this series will help me feel better about what I'm creating.

He also gave me a good word of advice. Basically he said to do whatever the heck I loved to do. It doesn't matter how many people comment or favorite, as long as I love what I'm doing nothing else matters. I hope to take that to heart.

here is Matt's photo. He is my biggest inspiration.

short weather?

eeee maybe not quite short weather just yet! But one can hope! I wore this outfit a couple days ago when it was sunny outside, and just yesterday the weather turned gross, but today the temperature was up in the 50s! Woah man! It's summer weather! Hahaha. I really wanted to go with a monochromatic theme with some pink lipstick ... so thank you Mommy for letting me borrow your shirt!

The lipstick is actually super old. I bought it for my mom a long time ago as a mother's day present (like when I was twelve, I think) and she never wore the crazy pink color, so eventually it made its way into my possession. Thus far I have had no success with lipstick that I'm really happy about. I really need some that will stay on all day. It's weird when I'm wearing bright pink lipstick in the morning and it's all rubbed off by the end of the day! I guess that's what I get for always buying the cheap brand though, haha.

How about you? Do you have anything that's found its way into your possession?

Anyways, have an awesome day!
