into the groove of things

shirt/pants: forever 21 // jean shirt: ebay // lace shirt: thrifted // boots: target

Let me just take a moment to say thank you guys for reading this little blog of mine. It makes my day to read all your comments and read your blogs. You all are the best. Also, thank you for sticking with me. Currently I've been feeling frazzled finding a balance between creating good content for Introvert's Introduction while doing my new job. Once I fall into a good groove things will be a bit more structured--film friday will return, as will my week in instagram--plus I have a lot of ideas in my head that I haven't written down yet. All in due time though.

This is a pretty typical Lauren outfit. Button up shirt as a cardigan, a shirt tied in a knot, lace, my favorite boots ... You can't really go wrong with any of those things. I remember when I first bought this polka dot shirt. I had no idea what I was going to do with it, and I actually haven't worn it that much since purchasing it almost a year ago, but hopefully that will change. I was only able to bring about half my wardrobe home (and I've already looked for clothes that I left in Oregon, blarg) so I'm sure I'll remix everything to death.

I hope you have a great day!

rebel streaks

I hope everyone had a fun mother's day yesterday! Considering that was all anyone talked about on facebook, I would say everyone had a swell time. My little sister and I had been working hard on a mother's day present for our mom. I printed out a photo of the both of us and she and I wrote a poem together. It made our mom cry, so I would say it was a very successful present. But seriously though, my mom is the best.

So I have a funny story to tell you all. At least, it was hilarious for me. So backspace to Saturday. My parents were going to be running errands all day, so they left me in charge to get my brothers to an event in the morning. So I woke up, got ready to take them, and we were all ready to go, when we began to wonder where the car keys were (our family has two cars, and my parents took one of them). We searched through the entire house, and came to the conclusion that my dad had taken his set of keys, and then my mom had taken her purse, where the second set of keys were hiding. We were all stranded at the house with no way to get anywhere, and on top of that, my parents are the worst at answering their cell phones, so they were driving around in blissful ignorance while us children were scrambling to find a way to get around town. (Eventually they got a ride and it was all worked out.)

Fast forward to today, Sunday, as church is ending. My parents have to run a few more errands, so my dad gives me the keys to drive my siblings home (both of the cars are at church). My mom gives my brother her set of keys as well. I'm sitting in the car with two of the kids, kid number three comes out, puts the extra keys in the van, and gets into the white car with me. That's when I get a brilliant, evil, ingenious idea. (I'm sure you all know where this is going.) We retrieve the extra keys out of the van, and now with both sets in our possession, we position the car in a hideout location to wait for our parents to realize they are now stranded. Oh man, what a rush I felt! Such rebellion! My brother is hiding out in a friend's car to film the event, and my mom calls me as soon as they think we have left them keyless. After trying to open the van door, which is locked, they spot my brother failing at being sneaky, who then jumps out of the friend's car, dashes to mine, and we make a speedy getaway like in one of those movies where the bad guys are leaving the scene of the crime all cool like. The people in the parking lot were cheering and laughing as we flew through the air, tasting the sweet freedom that we rebels so deserved.
Oh sweet sweet revenge!

But then of course we turned back and returned the keys, and our parents thought it was the greatest thing ever. I mean, they deserved it, it was the perfect opportunity, they practically handed it to us on a silver platter. And as my brother would say, "Lauren, they did hand it to us ... they gave us both the keys!"

If that doesn't say happy mother's day, then I don't know what does.

Thus ends my rebel streak. No children were punished. And my parents had a good laugh.

red seas

//

9:45pm -- my brother snuck out of the house with me to chase the sunlight. This was a new place we found, right on the side of the road. It was an obvious favorite place for moose, but the light was perfect and William was playing Lord of the Rings to scare them off. Mosquitoes were everywhere and the scratching grass left me itchy, but after the first shot was taken, I knew we had found something special.

Here's to hoping this will be a regular occurrence.

no one knows everything

shirt/shoes: target // cardigan/belt: thrifted

Happy Friday, all! These photos were supposed to get out yesterday, but I accidentally fell asleep at nine and let me tell you what, it was blissful. I never understood why my parents went to bed so early, but now I know why. Work is tiring! But it's a really good, satisfying sort of tiring. I love working for an actual small photography business, because not only am I doing something I love to help my boss, but I'm also doing things that will eventually help my own photography. I'm already thinking up ways to make a real print shop and website, as opposed to my current website and print site. They suit my needs now, considering I have zero current clients, so perhaps I'm jumping a little bit ahead of the game. But then again, if I made a print shop that was easier to navigate and purchase from, then maybe I would get more purchases, which in turn would pay for the website. I don't really know. But when do I ever know? At any rate, one thing I love about my boss is that he always says that we are just faking it. And as I get older, I think that's totally true. I always thought adults knew everything and had it all together, but the thing is, everyone is just struggling through life. No one really knows what they're doing, but that's okay. I suppose if we knew everything, then life wouldn't be such a big adventure.

Speaking of photography (I'm sorry I've been talking about it so much recently. I promise I won't say anything about it in my next next post! ... since my next post is about a photoshoot I did with my brother, haha.), I just posted a discount on my services on my facebook page. So if you live in the Anchorage area or will be around there at all during the summer and need to book a session, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
